Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and former candidate Bernie Sanders joined forces earlier this summer to unify the Democratic party and outline a climate plan to put into place if presumptive candidate Joe Biden wins the Presidency this fall.
At a high level, the plan looks to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 both in the U.S. and globally. Notable steps to hit this target include completely decarbonizing the U.S. power generation fleet by 2035, net-zero greenhouse emissions for all new buildings by 2030, installing 500,000 EV charging stations across the U.S. and converting 3 million vehicles owned by federal, state and local governments to zero-emission vehicles.
Biden sees this $2 trillion climate plan as a means to rebuild the U.S. economy following the COVID-19 pandemic. Biden has touted his plan as being the “biggest job creation opportunity of the 21st century.,” stating that “Even if we weren’t facing a pandemic and an economic crisis, we should be making these investments anyway.”
